About the Artist Tim Sutherland
I have been an artist for as long as I can remember--even before I was school-age. My mother always encouraged me to draw, color and paint. An aunt bought me my first oil-painting set and canvas boards when I was seven. Throughout my school years, though very interested in sports, I was always involved in art classes, local school competitions, poster club and the like. I developed an insatiable passion for art in my late teens. I decided to pursue my passion and I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Old Dominion College in 1969, concentrating in printmaking and sculpture. My creative passion never subsided, however, I chose to support my family and serve my country as an Air Force officer for over 29 years. During these years I took some refresher / graduate-level courses and continued to express my creativity, both musically and visually. Now I am fortunate to be at the edge of the Texas hill country to continue pursuing my passion full time. I enjoy my work immensely.
I designed and built my studio, "the shack" next to our home. I've seen a lot while traveling all over the world, so I approach my work with wide-eyed enthusiasm. I will attempt darn near anything to achieve the results I'm looking for. I use, but I'm not limited to, wood, limestone, granite, (indigenous to the Hill Country of Texas) plaster, clay, PVC piping, resin, water color, acrylic, oil, leafing ---if I think I need it, I'll give it a whirl. In short, I see any commission as an opportunity to satisfy the needs of my client while expanding my horizons. I feel blessed with some basic talent and I am amazed at what can be accomplished with a little initiative, prayer and the help of the good Lord. Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my work with you.
